ANU Debating also organises public debates throughout the year. In O-Week, we welcome Australia’s most influential politicians to participate in ‘Politics in the Pub’, a Q&A-style event in the ANU Bar. In 2009, we are hosting debates in association with such groups as the National Centre for Indigenous Studies, the Australian Electoral Commission, the Australian Republican Movement and the ANU Sexuality and Womens Departments.

Our internal competitions lead up to huge intervarsity events. Australia has a strong debating community and we have the opportunity to attend several nationwide competitions. The first of these is 'Easters', a novice competition held annually over the Easter weekend. This year Easters will be hosted by the University of Queensland. We hope to send over 50 debaters and adjudicators.

Other tournaments which ANU Debating participates in include the Australasian Championships, to be held this year at Monash University, and the World Debating Championships, to be held in Turkey in December/January. We also attend a number of smaller tournaments in the lead up to Australs and Worlds.
