Welcome to ANU Debating! We are ANU’s most active student society. We hold weekly debating as part of our Novice, ANU Open and ANU British Parliamentary internal competitions. This year these competitions will be held on Tuesday nights, from 6:00 PM at the ANU Law School.
Debsoc Social Events ANU Debating also runs several social events throughout the year. In Semester One of 2009, these will include 'Politics in the Pub' during O-Week, an BBQ and exhibition debate in Week 1, an afternoon tea for women in the society, a contingent dinner in the lead up to Easters, the Debsoc End of Semester Party, as well as a number of training events.
Politics in the Pub Politics in the Pub was an amazing success. Barnaby Joyce was as blunt and controversial as we could ever have hoped for, Chris Pyne was his smarmy but hilarious self, Harry Jenkins was universally acknowledged as 'such a nice guy!' and Bob McMullan reminded us not to forget the 'big picture'. The Refectory was absolutely packed full of students, who by all reports had a really enjoyable night.

Sydney Mini (27-29 November): this is a great way to iron out some last minute kinks in your world's team dynamics or learn from some of the world's best. Traditionally teams for this have been organized amongst debaters themselves, so get talking to your friends, find yourself a partner (or adjudicate by yourself). Sign up is now open at: http://sydneymini2009.wordpress.com/ Melbourne Mini (4-6 December) is much like Sydney Mini, only in Melbourne. Once again teams are organized between yourselves.
